Privacy Policy

Effective October 28, 2026

The short version: Canvasly uses your own Canvas data to plan your week and show where you stand in your classes. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we only use your information to run Canvasly for you.

What Canvasly collects

Your account. Your name, email address and a password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never visible to us.

Your Canvas course data, through the Canvasly browser extension. When you visit your school's Canvas site while signed in, the extension reads:

  • Your courses, and how each course weights its grade categories
  • Assignment names, descriptions, due dates, and point values
  • Your scores, and whether each assignment is submitted, missing, or excused
  • Each course's letter-grade scale, if your professor set one in Canvas
  • The titles in each course's modules (the course's week-by-week outline), used to work out what a test covers
  • Your course's syllabus in Canvas (the Syllabus tab, and pages in the course with a syllabus-like title). Canvasly reads the letter-grade scale and late-work policy from it and keeps only those. The syllabus text itself is not stored.
  • The pages in the modules an upcoming test covers. Canvasly lists the main topics taught on those pages, so your study sessions can say what to review, and keeps only that list (each topic with its page's title and a link to it). Students in the same course may see the same list. The page text itself is not stored.

What you tell Canvasly. Your grade goals, study schedule, late-work policies, plan adjustments, and the questions you ask Canvasly's assistant.

How you use Canvasly. Which Canvasly pages you open and which features you use, for example opening your plan, asking a grade question, setting a goal, or when your Canvas data last synced. We record that you used a feature, not what you typed into the assistant, and we don't record your grades this way. We use this only to understand what's working and improve Canvasly, never for advertising, and we never sell it.

How you found Canvasly. If you arrived through one of our links (for example from a social media post) or from another website, we note which link or website when you sign up, so we know which posts reach students. The sign-up form also asks, optionally, how you heard about Canvasly, and we save your answer with your account. We don't use advertising trackers or ad-network cookies.

Basic technical information. Standard server logs and a count of assistant requests, used to keep the service running and within fair usage limits.

What the extension does not do

  • It never sees or stores your Canvas password.
  • It doesn't read your Canvas messages or inbox.
  • It only runs on Canvas sites (addresses ending in instructure.com), only reads your own courses there, and only sends data to Canvasly.
  • It doesn't track your browsing on any other website.

Canvasly's use of information received through its Chrome extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. That means we use it only to provide Canvasly's features, we never sell it, and we never use or transfer it for advertising, credit decisions, or to data brokers.

How your data is used

Only to provide Canvasly to you: building your plan, calculating where you stand in each class, estimating how long assignments take, and answering your questions. We also look at how Canvasly is used, including the plan adjustments people type, to find what's confusing and decide what to build next. We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or use it for anything unrelated to Canvasly.

AI processing

To estimate time, summarize assignments, and answer questions, Canvasly sends the relevant information (such as an assignment's description, your grade data for a course, your course's syllabus text, the text of course pages a test covers, or your question) to Anthropic, which provides the AI model behind Canvasly. Anthropic processes this information to provide the service to us under its commercial terms.

Under Anthropic's commercial terms, Anthropic may not train its AI models on the information Canvasly sends.

Grade calculations themselves are done by Canvasly's own code, not by AI. Anything written by AI in Canvasly, like assignment overviews, time estimates and chat answers, is labeled, and it can be wrong, so check anything important in Canvas. What Canvasly finds in a syllabus is only a suggestion: nothing changes until you confirm it. Topics to review are checked against your course pages before they're shown, but they're a starting point, not a complete list of what a test covers.

Text reminders (optional)

Canvasly can send a daily text with what to focus on, but only if you turn it on and provide a phone number. It's entirely optional, and Canvasly works fully without it. If you opt in, you agree to receive automated text messages at that number. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to unsubscribe, or HELP for help.

Services we rely on

  • Supabase, which stores your account and data
  • Vercel, which hosts the Canvasly website
  • Anthropic, which provides the AI features
  • Brevo, which sends account emails such as password reset links (it receives your email address only when one is sent to you)
  • Twilio, which sends text reminders, only if you turn them on
  • Stripe, which processes payments, only if you subscribe (we never see or store your full card number)

Each of these providers handles your data only as needed to provide their service to Canvasly.

Keeping your data safe

Data is encrypted in transit, and access to it is limited to what's needed to run Canvasly. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and all of your data at any time by emailing us, and we'll do so within 30 days. You can also stop the extension from collecting anything by removing it from your browser.

Your school records

You're choosing to share your own course information with Canvasly. Canvasly is not operated by your school, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Instructure, the maker of Canvas.
